Francis Scott Key was a Washington attorney who once wanted to be a clergyman. He wrote amateur verse which was mainly religious. Key wrote the national anthem during the War of 1812 while interceding for release from the British on behalf of a friend. He wrote his poem from a prisoner exchange ship in the Baltimore harbor after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry. The flag that flew over McHenry can be seen in the National Museum in Washington, D.C. The tune of the anthem is that of an old English song, "To Anacreon in Heaven." "The Star-Spangled Banner" became our national anthem in September of 1931. You are to write a personal reflective paragraph. This means you will need to SERIOUSLY think about the topic: WHAT THE U.S. FLAG MEANS TO ME. Look at an American flag. Think of all the places you have seen it, how it has been displayed, how it might have been used. Brainstorm your ideas then write your paper.

The American flag has been used for protest to represent freedom, victory, and defeat. The American flag was first created in Boston. It represent the freedom and the birth of a new country. The first flag had 13 stars on it. For the 13 colonies. The white and red stripes means blood and courage. The men and woman have died to save our country. In the 60s our flag was used to protest against the Vietnam war. Collage kids around the country burned our flag to protest the war. Since then the flag has been used to protest all sorts of things .

The American flag is significant in the live of thousands of Americans. It is significant in my life, as well. The American flag reminds me that I live in a great nation. It remind me that I live in a nation where people can choose there own paths. A nation where men and women love it so much that they will go out and die for it. The American flag makes me happy. It makes me proud to be an American. The colors are important to me. The red is the blood lost building this nation. America's history is filled with blood, from the battles to the building of the infastructure of our nation. The white, white being the absence of color, is a reminder that there has been an absence of loved ones in the past. That absence is what has given America a strong back bone. The great wars of our nation have caused the loss of life. That person was absent to see there nation grow and acheive, but they didn't die in vain. For every person lost in war there is a strong, proud family back home still missing them. Those people can never come back, and as the absence of colors in white, will be absent from everything in America. The blue is the tears and sweat that built the nation. Soldiers have died, and although they died an honorable death they were still mourned. America was built from sweat, blood, dreams, and good people. The blue represents that. The flag flying high above represents America as a whole. It represenst America's unity. It represents America's history, present, and future. It is what America was built from, what it is now, and what it will be. People fought for what they believed in and didn't have severe punishments because they were allowed to, and that is what the American flag means to me. It means that we, as Americans, are free people who can fight for what we want and acheive great things.

The american flag IS America. It is absolutly everywhere. The flag represents the founding states and the freedom of our country. I have seen it at almost any big event. Even some small ones. It is at sport games, most buildings, national events, even school, and houses. That is not even close to all the possibilities. The flag is also displayed with much honor. It is put up and taken down in honor. Even retired in honor. Our flag is very important to our country. It is kind of like our mascot. We would be pretty plain without it. It is in the air almost every where you look. You can barely get away from it in america. It means that much to america. The flag means a bunch to me to. It shows my freedom. I think that is what the stars shold be for.

Francis Scott Key the writer of the National anthem while watching Fort Mchenery get destroyed by the British Redcoats. He viewed it on a prisoner EXCHANGE ship. The Flag Represents the first 13 colonies and the sacrifice they made to make what the u.S. is today. The Flag went through many changes from the flag they used then. If I am correct the old flag had a circle for the 13 colonies. I see it every day and it makes me wan to rejoin the BSA ( Boyscouts of America). But you may find it in schools becuase it will remind you af how the U.S. was made. Plus to try to respect the freedom you were given. The army I think uses it for the morale. But it means to me that the flag The KKK burn the flag becuase they don't want the freedom of all races. They want just whites to be free. I ould let them hurt me before I let them burn our flag. But it was also used in protests in the wars. They use the flag and the Anthem to start off sporting events too. I mean it means that much to us that we even use it to start off school that is the best part. The flags are found nearly everywhere. I love the flag and I always will.

The American means that we are free from anything like freedom of speech, right to vote and etc. A women made the American flag in Boston. We use the National Anthem for sporting event like football, soccer, wrestling, baseball and etc. We see the American flag every where in schools, in building, in a stadium and etc. We say the National Anthem in different things. We say the pledge of the Alligence because we are free and we love our country. The star show how many states we have in our country. The stripes are for the blood from thje wars or the 13 colonys. We use the American flag to show that we are free country. To show that if someone mess with us we will mess with them back. Most of the people see the American flag they now that we are Americans. We had lost of flags. They change the star alot of times. Most of Americans risk their lives for America and the name of the country. Our nation is growing everyday of our lives. Every second someone is born. Another second somone is in heavon.

It think the americn flag is the most powerful symbol of our country. It represents our nation as a full country. It tells us about the people that are fighting to keep our freedom we have now and some people don't realize that. The flag stands in every classroom and every school for a reason. This represents united, and protected that's what we as a nation represent. The united states flag has sentalmental value to everybody if somebody is not respecting the flag. It's like you're throwing it on the ground and burning it.So that's why i always appreciate what this nations army has done and will do in the future. So if you're a true all american i wouldn't do that

Being an ARMY BRAT, I have had the opportunity to see the American flag flown in many places, to include countries, as well as funerals, protests, and in welcome to our honored soldiers. I have been fortunate to live overseas for many years and in that time have been able to visit many countries. One of them being France. I was able to visit the shores of Normandy where our soldiers first landed on D-Day during World War II. I was not expecting to see the American flag flown in so many places as it was. It was prominently flown in the World War II Cemetery as well as many of the squares but also in museums and many homes. There also were some small American flags placed on a few German soldiers graves at the German Cemetery which was very interesting and enlightening. Having been a part of many military ceremonies, I have seen first hand, that the American Flag carries with it a very long and precious history. My dad was a pilot in the army during the campaign in Iraq and Afghanistan and one of the things that he did as a pilot was fly American flags and Certify them as flown during war time and bring them back to friends and family. This is a tribute I think to our flag as well as to those who have fought for our rights in the wars of the past as well as the protests of the past , present and future. My Uncle is currently still serving as a Ranger in the Army. My Grandfather is a retired Command SgtMajor of the Army. My Step father was also a Ranger in the Army. My Great Grandfather Traynor Served during world War II in the Army Air Corp as a Crew Chief. My Uncle Chad served in the Air Force and I currently have several cousins who are currently serving in the Army. I have a long line of those who have served our country in my family and perhaps I may serve, I have no idea. I know that the flag needs service and sacrifice to mean something. I know that a flag draped over a coffin means the ultimate sacrifice and that's sad but worthy of respect. I can not tolerate those who spit on or trample on our flag and the rights that it stands for and those that have fought for it but THAT is their right as is mine to pray for them and hope that they see the error of their ways. I also hope that people come to their senses and realize how much this country has given to the world.

The American flag is very important and unique to me. No other country has a flag that is similar to ours. It has so many meanings. It represents, with stripes, the original rebellious, hard working colony it once was. It represents, with stars, the 50 states we are now.

I think the U.S. flag means Freedom & bravery. You see it at schools, national monuments, on cars, at homes, & businesses. You see it almost everywhere you go. With my brother being in the Marines, i see the flag at almost everything we go to with him. We see pins of the flag. We see it on shirts. It resembles our nation being free. It resembles the soldiers fighting for you & me. It is flowing wild & free to show that we have victory & that we are free. It's in honor of the fallen soldiers. It's in honor of the soldiers still fighting. It is never torn, nor ever ignored. We salute to it. The American Flag is very important. The stars represent the 50 states. The stripes represent the 13 colonies. No other flag is like ours. Ours is unique & different. It has a great deal of meaning to all of our citizens. It is welcoming to any other ethnicity that wants to come to the U.S & be free.

What the star spngled banner means to me? Well it means struggle. TO think of what we had to go through to get to where we are now. IT is time that we actually reconigze the star spangled banner and who wrote it. It is really nice to the flag we posted up for our fathers. I really love my freedom. I wouldn't have it if it weren't no people to stand up to the british. That's where we get our toughness from. THat's where we stand in this world. That's where we shall be. It's tough to get freedom they said but not impossible. Greatness comes from the mind not the physical achievements. THat's how you have to take life. Know that you are great. Know that you can achieve. It's going to be alright. For that is the hard home run. Live not for the battles won. Live not for the end of the song. Live in the along.

The flag is more than just a pretty piece of cloth that hangs from a pole. Its so much more. The flag symbolizes the freedom of the 50 united states of America. The flag also symbolizes the history, the peaceful and painful, shared throughout America. The United States has been through so many great things from being discovered to discovering new things to freedom of slaves. America has also been through awful and shameful experiences such as slavery, wars, riots, deaths, and assassinations of important leaders . Even though America hates the violence we went through, America wouldn't be this independent and strong without the things we went through in the past. So many people helped America such as the following:

The American Flag means many things to me . It means many things to others as well . The American Flag is a symbol . Its a symbol of Freedom . Its a symbol of union of different races . It symbolizes peace and love . It means so many things . It means things to other countries also . whether they are our allies or not . For a country that we are allied with it means friendship and forgiveness because most of our allies we have fought and forgiven and are now friends and have found peace . To countries that we are not allies with the flag symboliizes enemy . The Flag meas a lot of things . What does it mean to you as an American ? What does it mean to foriegners ? The flag can be seen everywhere in the U.S . It is amazing to see flying in the breeze . It is waved as we watch our troops leave or return to america . It can also symbolize hope for them to return to us . When solider has fallen it stands for honor . Our Flag is amazing . Just like the song amazing grace . To see her flying just reminds us how fortunate we are to be the Red White and Blue ........ America ...... The land of the free ..... and the home of the brave . We are the U.S.A .

To me, the American Flag represents independence and freedom. It can be seen in many places; people showing their pride for our amazing country and the freedoms we have. People use it for many things: Fourth of July and at funerals for soldiers who have fought for our country. We take much pride in our amazing country. So do I. Our country is the greatest of them all. Our country's symbol is the American flag. They are found everywhere. Sometimes before football games, ect. where people honor our country by singing the national anthem and seeing the American flag nearby. We all honor our country everyday by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and placing our hand on our heart. Soldiers are honored on Memorial Day and Veterans Day where an American Flag is easily spotted. They can also be seen at a soldiers funeral or even a veterans funeral. The American Flag means these things to me: nobility, independence, freedom, and much more. The American Flag is a symbol of our country. I love our country. The American flag can be noticed world wide for the characteristics I have mentioned. The American Flag is a wonderful and noticeable symbol for our country. I hope it stays like this forever.

The American Flag means alot to me. Everytime I look at a Flag I think of how lucky I am to live in a free country. Most people don't have that. When I see a man that is in the military I want to go hug them. I think they might find that strange. Maybe not, who knows. I don't think that no one can even imagine what goes on in the war. I doubt that they ever get over what they see. They are so brave. I could not imagine how brave you have to be. Those kids that drop out of school they go in the military mostly. So many young men and women die. I would be so scared. When I see a flag, I see no disrespect. For if I do, I feel bad the rest of the day. Over there it is not just a game on X-Box. It is real. It is not a joke. Everytime you see a flag you need to not laugh be respectful. They are the ones who allow you to play in the yard. So thank you military for all you do.

The American flag makes me instantly think of the Pledge of Allegiance. Each phrase has its own meaning. 'I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States if America...' means a promise of truth and loyalty to not only our country, but everything its based upon.'...And to the Republic for which it stands...' means a country where the government is "of, by, and for the people" which means our people are the foundation of the country. '...One nation under God...' means our country's foundation was based on the religion of Christianity.'...Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice..' means our country is inseparable and gives everyone the freedoms they deserve with fairness. '...FOR ALL.' which is very important to me, meaning no matter what your race is, your religion, your ethnicity, your gender, what language you speak, ect. you are still given respect from the government. The preamble to our Constitution also comes to mind. We the people in order to form a more perfect union establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our prosperity do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. Reading this gives me a sense of security and peace of mind. The Pledge of Allegiance and the preamble is what this country is all about. The flag is a symbol for our country which should be treasure and kept in our hearts. The one thing I will never forget is the pride my daddy felt when he received a flag in a glass at my granddaddy's funeral. You see, my granddaddy was a veteran. He fought for our country, our flag, our preamble, and our freedom. My granddaddy had to fight for that flag. He had to fight so that one day, when dies he can give that to one of his children. The American flag means alot to my family and I. Shouldn't we fight for our country? Shouldn't we fight to keep our liberty and justice for all?

There have been appliances like car flags to bumper plates. There are even steering wheel covers with the U.S flag on it.Those are just to show off patriotism. The flag has many meanings to all of use.

We have something that some others countries have . I'm proud of everyone who has risked their life so we could have a better future. The flag represents us , and all we been through . We have a really tough country . If it wasn't for all of the brave souls who fought for us , I don't know how this country would be .

The U.S. has allies that support us by displaying our flag. But, our enemies don't display our flag at all. They probably burn our flag everytime they see it. That's just how much they hate us. They don't care about us ; they hate us. They're haters though, because the United States is the best.

The American flag reminds me of all the soldiers who died trying to free us. I think about how hard it was being under control and trying to break free. Sometimes randomly i just start singing the star spangled banner. It feels good to know that people really wanted us to be free. If it wasnt for the people who fought for us we wouldnt be where we are today.

The American flag means so much to me we bring the flag during war to let everyone know that we are a great nation. Both of my parents were in the military and that makes me proud of them. We all see a flag where ever we go we see it because it repreasents our contry,Which we all love. The stars repreasents the fifty states in our contry. The stripes on our flagmeans the thirteen originnal colonies. That is why the flag is so special to us. We even should give it reaspect for what it means. We all give it reaspect any way because our flag is on the moon also because we put it on Iwo Jima. That is really special to us. Our flag is so special in so many ways that none of our enimies will understaned it. Now that is really special. It makes everything so cool its almost or is amazing. Our flag has lots of history even when the future is still to come everyone will still know the flag's history. Everyone that does know about the flag will still be amazed about it. That is why I support the military because they protect this nation and what the flag standes for. Thats why I support it too. Also some of my friends. That is why I care about it so much. Also my family and friends. Also the solgers that are fighting.

Francis Scott Key was a person who is very famous. We have all probely have heard the song "The Star Spangled Banner". Francis Scott Key was the man to write that song. When you see the American flag what do you feel? What does it mean to you? All these questions we have never really asked our selves. We just grow up singing it and saying it. Thats all we have ever done.

The American flag can resembell alot of things. Every country has a flag. They are all diffrent. Each state has one too. The flag has 50 stars to represent all the states. There are 13 stripes too. I think they have to do with the American Revolutionary War. There where 13 states to start with. Well... there are 13 stripes. The flag also means that all the states are united. There are 50 stars and 50 states. Alot of people have the flag outside there house. We even have a flag day. They say that if you let the flag touch the ground; you will have to burn it or buride it. I really doubt that. Everyday we have to stand up and say the pleged. Some people think this is stuiped. I really don't care if i have to or not. Some people don't stand up at all. They are discrasing our contry.

At sport games, funerals, school post office, any goverment and just about anywere else. The american flag represents the 50 states. Oh and we cant forget the first 13 colonies. The flag means alot to alot of people. It should never touch the ground or be ripped.

The American flag means so much to me. It is a symbol of our freedom. It also shows we have freedom of speech and freedom of religion. It can also show that our country is rebellious. We are allowed to live where we want to live. America’s changed over the years and it’s been in a lot of wars, like the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, which was when Francis Scott Key wrote the national anthem of “The Star Spangled Banner.” The Civil War, which was a war between the North (the Union) and the South (the Confederates), split the nation apart. Now the Cold War, which really wasn’t a war, was a disagreement between the U.S. and Russia. It means how our freedom has gotten bigger throughout the ages. I think the U.S. right now is pretty screwed up because of the economy. It feels like President Obama has done no changes that I can see. The flag is a symbol of bravery. I like wearing it on my T-shirts, because it shows I love the USA. If I was in Iraq, I would definitely think that the U.S. soldiers are here. The soldiers put their lives on the line to protect us, the citizens. It means freedom, freedom of what we can do, places we can go, freedom of what we can have as pets, and freedom of who can get an education. I just don’t think of anything else. I take it for granted. I’m not supposed to take it for granted. Red and white mean the first 13 colonies of the U.S. When I see the stars, I think of the 50 states.

Our flag to many people may just say it's just their or it's just for pretty looks. Our flag means more than it being their, and it's had more history than you can believe. It represents my ancestors who risked their lives for their future generations. Every American citizen hangs this flag for pride and loyalty to American soldiers. Even though we all may disagree with the government now with the new laws ;we all must understand we must stay one to keep America alive even following rules. Your already thinking forget rules. Ignorance is more bliss than you can believe ,but our soldiers who risked their lives to make what America is to day is what you should proud of. With 50 states that are proud to say I'm American and I'm proud. With every sentence of the pledge means what are freedom means. Having the ability to do what average people aren't able to do is a gift that us Americans have. The American flag probly scares many countries cause we won't back down to a fight even if it means trying new lines. I'm proud to be an American and this is what the American flag means to me and others in this country, and shows other countries who attacked us before that you really don't want to mess with us.

The american flag is more of a symbol now then a flag. The flag can be seen through out all of history. It was in the Civil War. In many wars you can see it in all wars. It is showing the army is from the U.S.

The American flag stands for the United States of America. The 13 stripes represent the original 13 colonies. Each of the stars signifies one of the 50 states. The American Flag was cause of freedom and that i think is call victory. The flag is a symbol that stands for our country! It means many things. Obviously the stars and stripes represent the states/colonies.The color of the stars is also symbolic in that the blue star represents hope and pride and the gold star represents sacrifice to the cause of liberty and freedom. To establish an official flag for the new nation the Continental Congress passed the first Flag Act Resolved That the flag of the United States be made of thirteen stripes alternate red and white that the union be thirteen stars white in a blue field representing a new Constellation. Bush is only the fourth President to lose the popular vote but win the Presidency by means of the Electoral College. Andrew Jackson and Grover Cleveland suffered the same setback. RedHardiness and valorRed represents the blood spilled protecting our home.

I have seen the flag many places. At this school. At many schools. At reastraunts. At the beach. Also Ive seen it on T.V. I also saw it on planes. It means alot to some people. Others, not so much. It means alot to me. It stands up for our country. It represents us. It shows we are a free country. It says we are the U.S. It shows all of the hard work we did. How we came from England, and became free. It shows the wars we fought in. It shows how hard we worked. LIke I said, it represents us. How do you fell about

The American flag has been in every large city I have ever been. When I went to Washington D.C. with mr. Smith and ECMS students, the american flag was everywhere. Every historical monument had one. The washington monument had 17 or 20 american flags surronding it. The american flag means freedom. We faught for our freedom and we earned it. The flag is flying everywhere because we have the right to express our freedom of this great country

The american flag. I think this flag is a symbol of two things. Greatness and freedom. This to things is what make the American socity so amazing. This flag was first made in Pennslvania by bettsy Ross. It only started out with a few stars. Now it has fifty stars each reprsentina a stae. Most of those stars we got during the civil war which was a very impotant time for us. The american flag is the most iconical symbol of freedom and greatness the world has every know. To me though this flag represents all the soilders who have died to help keep ou nation free and great. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Un top of. Many people think the american flag is just a flag. Well these people are very wrong. This flag is a symbol of all the things our nation has acommplised. Also many people think a state flag is more important. Well how would countrys we are at war with know who we are. So that is the people know who we are. And you know what they are very scared of us. They know we are the most fierce and unforgiving county there ever was.

The American Flag and what it means to me. . I have people that I look up to a great deal that work in the Army. So I honestly take the flag searously. The troops fight for our freedom and the flag is a symbol of our freedom. If you arent appreciative for freedom, you cannot possibly be appreciative for ANYTHING. We could be just like China and Japan and be told how many kids we can have and if its a girl disown your child. I love my sister and my brother like im theyre mother. Maybe because we have never fought because they are only 6 and 1. :) But if anyone or anything was to ever touch them or harm them in anyway, God so help me. So what if you had to lose a sibling because some selfish ruler told your parents that they could only have 2 or less children? That would be horrible. You may not ever see them again. So be thankful that you can worship whoever you want, have as many kids as you want, do, say, go anywhere you want. Because we can very well have had that change if we didnt have some pretty amazing soldiers fight for us and many willing to die for everyone else.

The American Flag Represents America in more ways than anything else could! It is something we honor for our freedom! We proudly wave the flag in every school! We say a pledge to honor the best country in the world. The flag IS America! It's a sign of respect towards America! Nothing is greater than to be American. The flag represents our freedom. It also is something we use to remember our Military troups! I have an American flag flying outside my house! I'm proud to have it flying up in the sky. The American flag means alot to me. It reminds me of the priviledges that we have that MOST other countries have! I'm a naturalized born and raised southern america, and there is nothing that we respect more than the American flag! It means alot to me and my family!

I think the American Flag represents freedom for all,and all schools and public buildings fly them. It also represents all 50 states and the 7 oceans in the world. It's an very important thing in our country, and the military uses it so that others can know that it's American. We pledge to it almost every morning (excluding Saturday and Sundays and summer and holidays) Without it, other countries would not know who we are and what we stand for. Also when we are in wars, people see our flag and see our dominance.

I think that the flag is a sign of freedom. It is how we show that we are a country. People think that the shows are stringth and it dose. people think that it is a sign that we are free country. It dose it makes us be free and show that no matter what happens we will stick together and be the best country in t he world America. I think that alot of flags are cool but the American flag is the best of all. The person that invented the american flag is betsy roos. Ore at least she was the first one to ever make the American flag and design it. There are now fiffty stars on the flag but she sewed it she had stars on it. Because their was only thirteen states int hat time. So many people have brought together a country back in the days where they lived in clay house and stuff. So the flag is sign of memory also a sign of brave men that fought for are freedom. They gave us this freedom the right to say that this are country and this are flag.

When I see a U.S. flag I think of one nation under God. That's how some people people still see this. But mostly people just see it just as a flag. When you say the pledge of alleigance, you are to mean what you say. But people just don't care about what they say to it.

Well, I dont really get what this statement is about. This thing kinda of confused me because there was alot of stuff that I didnt get. What does Francis Scott Key have to do with the American flag? I really dont know what the American flag means to me. Standing up and saying the pledge in school makes me wonder , why do we have to say this when it means nothing. I really dont get what this is about or what the American flag means to me. Well, I guess im done writting this because I dont get what your asking me or saying.

The american flag is very important to me. It symbols the USA. It is used for many things. Its in pretty much every class room. It flies high on flag poles. And theres many other things.. The american flag stands for the soldiers that fight for us everyday and risk their lives for us. I think its good to say the pledge everyday. Its the least we could do for them. When soldiers die a huge american flag covers their casket then the family gets it because they protected us. I'm glad we have the American flag because thats what symbols our country. Other countries have their own flags too. I think ours is the best though. When I look at the flag I also think of the 50 states in the US because there are 50 stars on the flags for the 50 states. This flag stands for freedom. It also stands for independance. It symbols where all americans live. Im glad for the flag

I have seen the flag used in many ways. Terroists have put it upside down to show disrespect. Almost everyone in America owns an American flag. Some are huge. Some are just hanging on their walls. Some are even hoisted on actual poles in their yards. Veterans of the wars seem to have more flags then anyone. In the southern states of America, people usually have a rebel flag and an American flag all at once. In the Northern states, it is only the American flag. I guess people still believe in the south's 'old ways'. My house does not have any type of flags in the yard. I don't really know anyone who actually has a big flag pole. Every school in America has a flag outside. Every church usualy does also. Even some stores. Restaurants never really have them. Sometimes, they are just randomly on the side of the road. I dont know though. All I know is I see them everywhere.

Every day when I walk to school I see the American flag . I think of what it symbolizes and the brave troops that fight and give their lives to keep us safe . I also think of the pledge and how it means that we promise to be loyal to the flag . The flag means we are free and have liberty .When I see the American flag I think of the troops who fight to keep us safe and how very brave they are . As we speak, the troops in Iraq are giving their lives for us . They're helping us keep our freedom. As well as the troops who fought in all the other wars. Especially the Revolutionary War . If It wasn't for them we wouldn't have the American flag, and we would still have to take orders from Great Britain .The pledge is a big part of what the flag means to me. When we put our right hand over our heart it tells us that our hearts all beat as one under the stars and stripes of the United States flag . We are promising to be loyal and respect the flag. All the words of the pledge mean different things . Allegiance means loyalty. When we say "with liberty and justice for all" it means that our nation cannot be broken apart .The flag represents freedom and independence . It is a symbol of peace all across America . The American flag is a huge reminder everywhere that we are free and safe for all of eternity . I see the American flag almost every day . I think of what it symbolizes and how much it means to me . The troops that fight for us are really brave and deserve the most respect of all . I think of the pledge and how it means we promise to be loyal and respect our country . The flag shows freedom for all of America . I am proud to be an American ! (:

Well, the amercan flag means a lot to me.It stands for our freedom. And our justice. It stood throught the night, and told us that the war was over! And that we had won the war! Francis scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner. At first Key was just a regular ole attormey, who just wanted to be a clergyman. A clergyman is a male priest or minister of a christian church. When he was on a trip at F.T Mchenry, when he was captured by the british. He wrote the Anthem while he was on a prisioner exchange ship. And then the unthimkable happened...The ship was under attack. Through all the fighting and the bombs,Key stayed calm and wrote the anthem.he wrote it like the words poured out of his head like lemonade from a glass. Then he fell asleep ... I guess the loudness couldnt keep him awake!!Then when he rose the next morning the flag was still there. That ment that they had won the war!!! Acouple of monts later the government accepted the poem as the national anthem.. OOhhhh how i wish that could of been my family!!!

The American Flag means a lot .Freedom. Justice. History. The flag of the United States has a different meaning to it for every person. Whether it’s just standing up in class everyday at school and saying the Pledge of Allegiance or if we really have respect for our countries flag. When you say the Pledge of Allegiance, do you really mean what you say? Do you even think about the words that are coming out of your mouth? While I was thinking about what to write for this essay, these questions got me thinking. What does the flag really mean? What was the purpose of it being made? I’ve always wondered why they chose the colors red, white, and blue to use in the flag and why only thirteen red and white stripes? I learned that the stripes represent the original thirteen colonies. Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. There was an issue when two new states, Kentucky and Vermont, were added to the Union. They were debating whether to add two more stars and stripes to the flag or not. The result was that they did end up added the two new states onto the flag. Later, they noticed that for every new state that was made, they would have to add a new star and a stripe. Someone finally suggested that we change the stripes back to thirteen to represent the first thirteen states that the United States admitted in our country. They would only add a star or each new state admitted. That was successfully followed through. We now have thirteen stripes and fifty stars on the flag. I think that the history of the flag and what the symbols are really important to knowing what the flag represents. Many people may disagree with me and think that the history isn’t the most important fact to know about the flag. Maybe you may think that it is all about who made the flag, if what the Pledge of Allegiance means, or what the flag was made for in the first place. Maybe you even think about what the Star- Spangled Banner really talks about when you sing it. These are all important things to think and know about. The flag is really valuable and should be respected by every citizen

the american flag well it means some things to me. it is important in my life. one of the reasons is because my dad is in the army and fights under the american flag. the flag also means to me in the colors and this is by blue is honor. i think that if you fight under this flag you have to have alot of honor to show yourself and you countries. this is the same with ourage which is the color of red. i think this because you really have to have alot of courage to sacrifice yourself to you r country and for your country. and ofcourse your doing this all under the american flag. white is the color for everything the flag means to all americans. it really takes guts to fight for your country under the american flag. lastly i would like to sum this up with what the flag really is. the flag stands for AMERICA it is thus we united.

The American Flag. Many observe that the flag that represents our nation possesses the symbols of strength, pride, and the desire to achieve feats. While as many others view this flag as the symbol of freedom over oppression unimaginable to most that roam the earth, for the representation of strength, pride, and the desire to achieve incredible feats cannot be reached without struggle. Indeed, America has had its fair share of downfalls, some in which can never be forgotten, and the knowing of their existence has been passed down from one generation to the next. Therefore, the American flag in my eyes is a symbol that indeed represents a place plagued by downfalls, yet, a place that recovers from most of them. Though Columbus was not the first man to step foot in North America, his discovery influenced thousands to break free from the deny of religious freedom that served as the law for many countries of Europe during the early centuries. Puritans who were facing persecution for their religious beliefs and traditions were among the first foreign settlers of America after Columbus’ discovery. They traveled by vessel, where most fell victim to malnutrition and dehydration, and many died, before reaching America. When they finally arrived, constructing new lives was a deadly challenge. Building stable homes, as well as hunting and gathering enough food before the turning of seasons were among the main challenges new settlers faced that, when not conquered, stole the lives of thousands. Disease was also a leading cause of death, due to severe lack of hygiene, and the lack of much needed food. Overall, most settlers were in need of help. The Native Americans that inhabited America for thousands of years would provide this help. Native Americans taught many of these settlers how to cultivate land, build stable shelters, and hunt and gather food. They introduced special plants and herbs that helped cure diseases, and warned them of plants that were harmful to their health. Native Americans taught them how to hunt wolves, bears, and many other beasts that were numerous in America’s large forests. Thanksgiving, the first American holiday, was celebrated in honor of their teachings. Yet, the celebration of Native Americans would not last long. These new settlers didn’t fully understand the culture of Native Americans, and criticized their ways. They viewed them as improper, uncivilized beings, which conspired with Satan. They taught their children to hate them, and gave them the moniker, “Savages.” However, one cannot ignore that there were some new settlers who had respect for the Native Americans, and preferred their ways of life over their own. Some settlers admired their skills, bonds with nature, and lives of freedom, and journeyed beyond the lands they settled upon to become a part of their lives. Many of the newly settled men fell in love with Native American women, and had children together. Even the young that belonged to those settlers played games in which they themselves were Native Americans, and explored the lands beyond those of their fathers to observe their ways of life. Nonetheless, most were resistant to their presence. For these settlers soon began to turn their backs on them. As more and more traveled to America in search of new lives, they began seizing land that had rightfully been that of Native Americans, after promising they wouldn’t do so. Hundreds of treaties were passed, assuring that peace and land between Native Americans and White Settlers would remain equally divided. Yet, over the years, all were broken until the Native Americans, who had lived in North America for thousands of years, were forced onto reserves as the late nineteenth and early twentieth century passed. Ninety percent had already died from new diseases transferred from Europe to America with the coming of new settlers. Smallpox was the leading disease, and it was because of this disease, that entire tribes were wiped from the face of the earth. Their struggle is forever etched on the American Flag, because even today, most Americans cannot say that this land in which we stand on is rightfully ours. Yet, the struggle Native Americans faced is only one of the many America in total has faced. I have only mentioned their oppression in detail because it is among the first major oppressions America has faced. Slavery, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, discrimination, the Great Depression, the First World War, segregation, the Second World War, the Civil Rights Movement, and the Vietnam War are all among the most recognized struggles that America has faced. We are even facing struggle today with our troops still inhabiting the Middle East, fighting terrorisim that not only threatens the lives of Americans, yet, also threatens the lives of civilians in Middle Eastern countries as well. There are some who embrace the prescence of the American Flag within their country, yet, there are ot

others who would rather burn it. Though our economy has impoved, we are no longer the superpower of the world. These struggles and many more are all etched on the American Flag, and forever will be. For they represent its meaning in my eyes of freedom over oppression.
