The novel, Fahrenheit 451, begins with the line, "It was a pleasure to burn." Why might it be more pleasurable to burn books than to read them? What does the book-burning element of the society in the novel tell you about its values? What do you think the people who live in this society are like? In what way(s) is our society now like the one in the novel? Do you think there are citizens in our society now who would agree with book-burning? Why? Who are they?

It was a pleasure to burn. It is talking aboutr books. It is kind of a weird subject, because this is like a different kind of society. Many people in our society would agree with the burning of books because they simply just dont like reading them. I beleive tyhat they burn books in this society for a much differnt reason then we would want them to be burned for today. There must be something wrong with their society, and they think that many books could show them how society used to be and they dont want it be like that. they want their rules to be how thyey like them. Books symbolize alot of things and how they are, and if they read a bookand see how much differently they could possibly ;live then they will try to change things. So burning the books is a simpler way to solve the problem insted of just taking them. They would just rather get rid of the books in all. Today there are probly people who would highly agrtee with bookj burning. The dont like reading them and tey dont like doing reports on them so they woulod like them to just be gone. On the other hand books are the only way for people to communicate. They can set people free, so if they were gone it would be a tradgady for those people.

In the novel Fahrenheit 451 we are reading in class the first thing they say is, it was a pleasure to burn. Why do you think they like to burn them instead of read them? What do you think the people who live in this society are like? Do you think there are people now in this world that would agree with burning books instead of reading them? Why? Who do you think these people are?

When it says it is a pleasure to burn it is means that Montag likes to burn the books he find. It is his job to do this because he is a fireman we think of fireman as people that put out fires not start them. The people of this city thinks that it's ok to do this but I'm sure that there are some that like to read the books.

In the book Farenheit 451, its starts of saying, "It was a pleasure to burn books". Of course life for people in this book compared to life now, is totally different. People aren't even allowed to own books. While now, you could easily walk into a library and pick out hundreds of books to read. People read for fun! While in Farenheit 451, books are burned. It might bring them joy to burn the books then to read them. Reading is what alot of people do for fun, but for some people, they dread reading. So much so, that they might burn them.

It was a pleasure to burn. What could that mean?I believe it means that in he liked the idea and look of burning a house and it basicly is one of the more easy jobs.In saying that how could burning books be a weird part of society? Its kind of crazy, but it actually make scence if you think of it.Books could express things like rebelion and uprising. In our society people really would want books burnt except dictators.

If they sre seen reading there books will be burned and they get in trouble. Like recently a women had mokes in her house so they had to burn the house so she lit a match and burned the huse and herself becuase she didnt want to leave.

The society only sees book burning as the way of life because the rules influence them to think its right. People in this world do burn books but only because they dont belive in what the book is about. The country they live burns certain books because they dont want them to know what the outside world is about but only what there country is about.

It was a pleasure to burn, which means to burn books. I don't like to burn books, because i like to read interesting books. I think it would be more pleasurable to burn books because more people will buy more kindles and tech books. More technology having books sales would go up. i think the element of society tell you that the values should be appreciated. The element of society must be bad if they are burning books. the literacy rate probably went down a whole lot.

The book we are reading in class starts with the sentence''It was a pleasure to burn.'' He was talking about books. Why would he burn them? Why dont they just read them? Im not sure why they would burnn them instead of reading them. Maybe the books tell them things about the past and/of the future and the government just doesnt want them to read them. Since he is burning them they are either hiding stuff frrom the people who read or they just dont like book.

"It was a pleasure to burn." Thats how the book we are reading starts off. when it says that it is a pleasure to burn it is talking about books. What could possess them to want to burn books? i have no idea, it could be that maybe the books have content that the government doesn't like, such as the way society was in the past. The government could be hiding information from the people. A dictator could be someone that doesn't like books or a certain type of government.

In the book, it opens up with a line saying that it is a pleasure to burn. Its talking about the fact that in the community the main character lives in is one that doesn't want books in it. The community cant have books in their possesion and the firemen have to burn them. In my opinion it might be pleasureable to burn books because some people consider books to be boring and unnecessary to have. Lets be honest, it takes a LOT less time to burn a book than it is to read one! It makes me wonder what the future will be like for books and people who read. Hopefully that doesnt happen..

"It was a pleasure to burn." Montag would burn books, houses, and whatever else was there when he lit the fire. Watching the orange-red fire burn paper to a crisp and then watching the ashes fly up into the air had some kind of beauty to it for Montag and all the other pyromaniacs known as firemen. In this society, books aren't allowed. They are burned, their owners carried off to mental institutions. Why? Why in the world would someone be declared insane just for owning books? That's simple; this society has been brainwashed.

IN the book Guy loves to burn books rather than read them. I think that in that to them they don't want to sit down and spend a little time reading books. They are use to fast living and speedy schedules. So when they have to spend time doing something for once they hate it and burn the books to stop from reading. In the society that Guy lives in they like technology rather than imagination. They don't want people getting an imagination that is strong and could change the way the government rules the people.

Why would it be more pleasurable to burn books rather than read them? I believe, that as Beatty said, it's all about happiness. Books cause conflicts and controversy that sometimes bring war. By eliminating books, it might put an end to these senseless wars. Well at least this is the logic behind the firemen. The real plan behind that is to control their citizens and to numb them from bad emotions that'll make them want their lives to change to a wider range than the one provided by the government. The values that this government has is to be a complete control center, to make people not wonder about anything by busying them with things that are unimportant , and that knowledge is really a negative difference between people.

Well the book starts out as "It is pleasure to burn."So this society starts out that reading books is bad to do their. They can't have any books in their hands or anywhere they are.In the the book the firemen have to come around the community and burn all the book you have. Some of us think that books should be burn any ,but if we didn't have books how are you going to learn anything or even no how to read anything.I think everything will be different because we want even no how to drive to places ,beacause we can't read sighs all around us.Plus you want anything new in life to get you ready for anything that will happen in life.

I believe that they believe it is a pleasure to burn because that is how he was taught. The society has always taught them that firefighters were ment to burn books and that is what they do. Montag's father and grandfather were firfighters and they always burned books, so Montag was always taught to burn books. He found some sort of pleasure out of for doing it for so many years. The book-burning shows the values of society. the values of society are that is run by what the government believes and they believe that is how it should be run.

I just loving stuff. Just the smell of fire gets makes me so happy. I also love to hear the crakling of fire when it starts to burn. I do not like the idea of burning books though since some might be religeous. I mean what if someone burned the bible and you are christian. Then what would you say. Would you appreciate that?

It was a pleasure to burn. The book "Fahrenheit 451" starts off like this. The main character Montag is a fireman. In the society that he lives, in unstead of puting out the fires the firemen start the fires by burning the books. This is different compared to our society. This the way they are. I don't understand that society.

It was a pleasure to burn. This quote is from Ray Bradbury's Farenheight 451. The book is about firemen that burn books and the house in which they are found. For firemen, it was a pleasure to burn. This kinda represents the rebellious nature of today's teens.

The pleasure to burn books in this novel probably means that the people didn't like to read books at that time. Montag loves to read, it is interesting to him and that's something he likes to do. He wants to fit in the society that he is in. The people in this book are not like how people are today. People would stop and talk to each other today but in the novel the people would not say a word to anybody.

In my opinion it's not such a good idea to burn books. You shouldn't burn them anyways because some people take their time and write them for people to study ,learn and read.

I think that it is a pleasure to burn because books have been banned and it was considered an honor to burn them. To me this is a symbol that those in charge are getting rid of he old things and old ways to make certain people happy. Society must be different like it has lost a culture that is important.

In the book Fahrenheit 451, the first sentence was said by Montag, "It was a pleasure to burn." If you don't like to read, then, this would be a great sentence for them. It would devesate the book lovers in the world. The people of the society in Fahrenheit 451 don't have the same feelings for books as the real world has. People in Fahrenheit 451 thinks that books are a bunch of lies and what not.

Could you ever imagine our society being like that? Honestly I can't; I don't think many people would agree to doing that. I don't really understand why they would like to burn books out of all things. They could've chosen to burn anything else instead of because. Maybe they enjoyed it because lots of people may have realized that they didn't need books as much as they thought. Maybe they just thought burning things gave them a rush, so they decided to burn books. I wouldn't understand why they would pick books.

Well burning the books is a pleasure for some people but not for others. Some people like reading books but in the story the books are banned. Burning the books keeps the people from reading them that makes most people sad about it and some don't even care about it. Stories or books in any kind are not allowed because they believe that everything else could be just more modern and all technology like.
