Fahrenheit 451 begins with the line, "It was a pleasure to burn." Why might it be more pleasurable to burn books than to read them? What does the book-burning element of the society in the novel tell you about its values? What do you think the people who live in this society are like? In what way(s) is our society now like the one in the novel? Do you think there are citizens in our society now who would agree with book-burning? Why? Who are they?

The first line of the book represented how Montag probably enjoyed his job. The people in Fahrenheit 451 probably didn't want their citizens to read books because they believed books can teach some bad things such as witchcraft and crimes. The book-burning situation probably places a bad value on the society because the people are clueless and are constantly performing bad actions without even realizing it.

I think that book burning is bad because books give us information on different things like school. Books aren't bad because people use them all the time. If you are like Hitler then those people hate books. In Fahrenheit 451 montage the main character he is a fire fighter in the future. In his society fire fighters burn books because the houses are fire proof.

Well . As my point of view . No , people in the book don't like livin the way that they are living now . And for me I wouldn't like the way that I would be living either . Because it isn't right to live with burning books . They would be lucky that we can not tell or make an lawsuit on them .

I think them burning books is bad. We need books to help us learn or sometimes understand things. To some people it might be pleasurable to burn books, because they might not want to learn or read about anything different or new.

I personally think that book burning is a bad thing. Although some people might agree. People don't think about books as often. They're too busy playing on computers. I think we need to keep books. We need to use them to learn about new things. We need books more than we understand and sometimes we realize that they aren't that bad at all.

In the book it says that "it is a pleasure to burn", it probably says that because montag likes to burn books and peoples houses. He probably likes to do it because that is his job as a fireman to do that. The fire department probably burns books because they don't like the things that are in the books. Some of the people in this book try to hide books but the fire department finds out and burns the books.

I think the phrase " It is a pleasure to burn books " means that they like to burn books. They don't care about books enough to understand what they are worth. The reason why they don't care is because they dont have respect for them. Books are highly valuable to us in many ways. Books and other types of writings have taught us many of things for thousands of years.

The people in this socity live like a command econmy they cant read books and if they grt cought reading them ther books get put on fire and they house burn down yes i do think think that ther'ye some people who want to burn some books today just because they dont like readin them .

In Fahrenhiet 451 it was more of a pleasure to burn books then to read them. To me it seams like they dont like to read and would rather do work instead. The main people of the place they live in do not like them to learn other things from books and they do not like them being (lazy) and reading them.

In the book Fahrenheit 451 the reason why I think it begins that way is because they like to burn books. Books are not allowed in their society so they burn them. The firemen don't really care about it. If the person refuses to get out of the house they'll let you burn in the house with it too. They don't respect books and sometimes the people.

The phrase "It was a pleasure to burn", means that to the Firefighters who burned books, that they enjoyed there job. In this society it is illegal to own and or read a book. So, when it is saying that it is a pleasure to burn, the Firefighters, are kind of seen as heros, saving the people in the society of the books that witheld what the Firefighters call "Sickining" material. In today's society, Firefighters are seen as heros, the people and the goverment some what, try to enforce censorship, and some books are banned from public schools and libraries. The value of books today, is obviously higher than what it is, in "Farenheit 451." Books today are offerd almost everywhere you go, reaing is required in school systems and libraries are open to the public and are ran by tax money. Most of the people in "Farenheit 451" most likely agree with book burning, all of the "Horrifying" tales the Goverment and firefighters feed them all the time. But, in today's society, the burning of books might just cause a spark, that may start the fire to a riot or even- a rebellion. But, I belive the burning of books, is complete idiocity and should never happen. Take the books away, and there will be no knowledge, no education, no learning. A society like that, should never fall upon us.

The people of the socitey dont want people to learn from the books. They dont want them to be all smart and build things like weapons. You get knowledge from books. It would be bad because then the people would find out things and they would start doing bad things. The people in this society are probably un educated. They probably know nothing from not being able to read books and get smart.

It may be cool to see things burn sometimes but think what would if no one knows how to do numbers. they would need a book. I think knowing about the world is a good thong and will be a great thing to do hearing songs and reading poets and slides. its bad egnoth to have your books burned why would you need to burn a house.

In the book Farenhiet 451 people burn the books and anyone who owned them. people might like that idea because they don't like books or they feel as if books aren't good. Books are how most people learn in some type of way. Before computers all people had to learn was books. Books are one of the best things we have today. The phrase, "It was a pleasure to burn" means to me that the fireman loved burning the books. They grew up as young kids seeing firemen burn books everyday. The firemen thought it was more pleasurable to burn them rather than read them. They thought this becuase they had never read them before so they never knew how good they were. If the firemen had tooken the time to actually read a book before they took that job, they probably wouldn't accept their job as a fireman. As a fireman Montag's job was to burn books, but one day he found the pleasure of actually reading them. Now he has changed his ways and is working against the fireman in their fight to burn all of the books. Montag has many books that he has had for a while. He is a risk taker that is taking a stand for the book loving citizens of their community.

The first line was supposed to be a symbal of authority and show his power. It may be more pleasurable to burn books because some people can't stand suspense and won't be able ot read all the way through. In the book, Fahrenheit 451, the process of book burning shows that they do not value knowledge at all. They value their citizens happiness more than their knowledge.

In Farenheight 451, we all know the first line is "It was a pleasure to burn" In many ways this first sentence reflects on the whole book. I say this because in this society, people since the day they are born are taught that books are bad. This reflects a lot on the socitey that this book is based on. To me it says that the governement is so worried about power that it is scared that books will give citizens ideas. This says to me that the people in charge are greedy and obsessed with power.

It might be more pleasureable to burn books than read them is that it is a waste of paper and nobody reads them because its illiegal. The book burning in the society tells me some people want tobreak the law and don't really care if they get caught because they will find a way to get more books. I believe the author is trying to say that some people would rather not have to face the truth. It's easier to destroy something you don't like than to have to deal with it. Some of the characters in this book don't put any value on the truth. They would rather burn the evidence and make up their own truth. In the end you can't destroy or hide from the truth.

What a statement, to say that burning books is a pleasure. Personally I don't agree with burning books, but maybe montag felt it was more pleasurable to burn books instead of reading them because he didn't really know what books were. Maybe he didn't understand that books are the gate way to our knowledge, not to mention that his people had burned books for centries. I suppose they never thought to maybe look in one of the books that they hadn't burned. The fact that the society excepts that it's okay to burn books tells me that their vaules are very differnt from ours.

To burn books with leisure would usually mean that the firemen enjoyed their job. This symbolizes their power to reinforce what the " minorities" had wanted. People in this book would be happy without the need of books to influence them. They are constantly happy with doing other activities than being " intellectual" . They were taught how to get what done instead of why it is done.

In the book Fahrenheit 451 the first line is " It is a pleasure to burn." The author Ray Bradbury decided to choose that as the first line so it would reflect on the whole book. This book is about firemen burning books, the firemen are the ones starting the fires... not stopping them. I personally think that burning books is a terrible thing. Books teach you so much, it absolutely crazy! Everything started as a book, back then they didn't have Google to look up anything. Books also let your imagination run wild! Burning books now a days would be stupid! Some people like teenagers would not agree with me though. They think that books are pointless and have no need in the world, they think that Google solves everything.

Fahrenheit 451 begins with the line, "It was a pleasure to burn." It was a pleasure to burn books because that was the kind of society people lived in , and the people in charge probably didn't want the other people of the society to have the knowledge from the books. The book burning in this society is bad because the people in charge burn the books to keep thing like knowledge and the freedom of speech from all these people to keep control. The people in this society want control of all these people so they just lie and keep all this things from them in the society.

"It was a pleasure to burn." This is the opening line of the book Farheniet 451. The main idea of the book is society bans books and some people agree and some disagree with the idea. If you are caught with books, the books are burned and your house. In my opinion it is much more awarding to read a book than the burn them. I do understand if citizens rather burn the books. In Fahrenheit 451 the starting sentence is "' its a pleasure to burn was a type of code for Montag. That code was his favorite thing to do out of his entire job was to burn books. It even says on pg.1 were it starts was that he related himself using a simile to compare him self as a amazing conductor. His hands are the instruments holding a hose spewing kerosene on the flames. Kerosene is a type of highly flammable gas that is used in Fahrenheit 451 to burn books. The fire department now in the story instead of putting the fire out they ignite them.

The quote, "It was a pleasure to burn," means to mean that they appreciate and are honored to burn the books. In this the novel books aren't allowed and people can't own them or they will be punished by burning the books along with the houses they are in. I think the reason they burn the books is to hide things the people shouldn't know. Books provide a lot of education and the leaders may not want the people to know certain things that a book may carry. They don't want the people finging out something and causing a rebellion to take place.

I believe the quote means that the people there are not as smart as we are today. I think it stood for how the fireman how firemen loved there job. They felt very happy from the warmth of a fire. I believe that the society didn't have that many values. They just did not care at all.

I think the book starts with,"it is a pleasure to burn" because the firemen find burning books pleasurable. They might think this just because they don't know the importance of books.

In the beginning of the book Fahrenheit 451 the first sentence says "It was a pleasure to burn." I think what montage means is that he use to love burning books for the years that he has been a fire fighter but he has moved on and he does not think it is wright to burn books eny more. He has changed his mind about the way he thinks about books. In his society books are banned , it is illegal to have a book or books in your house. If you have one and some one finds out then they might tell the fire men and they might burn your books, your house, or maybe even you if you don't won't to leave. There was an old women who had books and the firemen found out and they burned her house down and she refused to leave her house so they just left her there to burn like they did not even care. Montage really did not wont to be a fireman any way but his grandfather and his dad was so he really did not have a choice. But montage likes books now and he does not burn them anymore.

I believe that Fahrenheit 451 stats with 'It was a pleasure to burn' to show that Montag likes his job. They would rather burn the books tan to read them. In a society with fireproof houses it would be better to burn books than to read them because the firemen have nothing else to do.

I think that book burning is bad because books give us information on different things like school. Books aren't bad because people use them all the time. If you are like Hitler then those people hate books. In Fahrenheit 451 montage the main character he is a fire fighter in the future. In his society fire fighters burn books because the houses are fire proof.

I think them burning books is bad. We need books to help us learn or sometimes understand things. To some people it might be pleasurable to burn books, because they might not want to learn or read about anything different or new.
